What's free, and where it stops
Every open series on Candy starts with a free episode, and you don't need an account to play it. That's 173 episodes, one per series, that anyone can open tonight.
Sign up for free and you get 174 more, usually episode 2 of each series. Nothing to pay and nothing to cancel later. Together that's 347 free episodes out of the 973 in the open series.
Episode 3 is the wall. A free account sees an upgrade window there, because paid episodes need Premium and tokens together, not one or the other. The open series hold 626 of those paid episodes.
The 17 Spicy series don't play free at all. They're Premium from the very first episode. Members then pay 0 tokens for episodes 1 and 2, and 30 or 50 tokens for each episode after that. You can't sample one before paying, which is our biggest gripe with them.
What the free episodes actually show
Think of them as the setup. You meet the people, learn who's hiding what, and get the flirting and the tension that make you want episode 3.
They're suggestive, not explicit. Just when a scene could go further, it cuts to something else. Explicit scenes are kept for the Spicy series and for the paid episodes deeper into the open series, so if that's what you're after, the free part won't give it to you.
That doesn't make the free episodes pointless. Two short episodes tell you whether the characters, the voices and the pace work for you, and that decides most of what a series is worth. Some openings drag. Others, like His Wife, His Rules, lay the whole premise on the table before the free part runs out.
Also, the second episode is often better than the first. The first one introduces everyone; the second is where the secret comes out or the offer gets made.
How to make the free part count
Make the free account first. It costs nothing, and as we said, the second episode is usually where a series shows what it's really about.
Then sample a lot. Episodes run about a minute, so you can get through the free openings of five or six series in less time than a sitcom episode. You'll know quickly which ones you'd actually finish.
